Health. Babies spend a good deal of time asleep in their cribs. This is especially true if you intend for your child to spend the night in his cot rather than in bed with you. Even if you co-sleep initially, chances are your child will spend a good part of the day napping, and later on playing, inside his crib. An Natural Baby mattress is healthier than one made of synthetic materials because it contains no harmful chemicals that will out-gas or release over time. Since these chemicals have been linked to poor health and developmental problems in children, it’s best to keep your baby away from them.
Value for money. A good organic mattress can cost around $250, and the more high-end types can cost as much as $500. A synthetic foam mattress on the other hand can go as low as $50. Yet when you consider the health risks to your child as well as the quality you’re getting, then it makes sense to go organic.

Foam or coils? It’s actually not that much of an importance. Foam tends to be cheaper and they are just as safe as long as you do not choose a soft mattress. Foam is also lighter. If you’re worried about having a firm mattress, choose coils. The more coils, the firmer it is.
Resistant to wetness. A good crib mattress should have a waterproof or at least a water-resistant cover. This type of top surface is great for two reasons. First of all, it will allow you to clean the mattress with a quick wipe form a damp cloth if your baby’s diaper overflows in the wee hours of the morning. Secondly, it will also keep wetness from penetrating to the mattress core and encouraging the growth of bacteria or mold.
